Ways For You to
Help Reduce Air Pollution

Air pollution kills an estimated 7 million people worldwide every year! 81 thousand of those deaths occur in the United States.

Communities play a powerful role in shifting how we contribute to air pollution at the individual level. By staying informed and shifting practices, we can help support the adoption of solutions that will help dramatically reduce air pollution over time.

Here are ways for you to help reduce air pollution:

#1 - Waste Management

Minimize your emissions from your waste by composting food and garden items, recycle non-organic trash if available and reusing grocery bags.

#2 - Cook and Heat Clean

Check efficiency ratings of your furnace and oven and if necessary upgrade to high efficiency models to save money and protect health.

#3 -  Move Mindfully

Use public transportation, cycling or walking to get around. If a car is necessary consider using low or no emission vehicles.

#4 - Conserve Energy

Turn off lights and electronics when they are not in use. Upgrade to LED bulbs, as a non-toxic alternative to CFLs, which contain mercury. Investing in solar panels may also be an option to reduce energy bills.

#5 - Call for Change

Contact local government officials and leaders to adopt national air quality standards that meet WHO guidelines. Support policies and initiatives that improve emissions standards and provide incentives for purchase of cleaner vehicles, low-energy appliances and energy-efficient housing.
